I attended a brilliant celebration event with the East Lancashire maternity team last Friday. They were celebrating their RCM Maternity Team of the year award and their own local NHS Trust maternity awards.
I was humbled, delighted, inspired, emotional and delighted all at one time as I listened and joined in the cheering and whooping which was all part of the exciting atmosphere.
HOM Anita Fleming had asked the teams for nominations and there were no short lists. Everyone who got a nomination had a mention on the night. Everyone that was named got a very loud applause and some of the cheering went on forever!
Now, I am no Natasha Kaplinski ( RCM celeb who gave out RCM awards) but I loved handing out the certificates and trophies with Chris the East Lancashire Chief Nurse to the award winners.
I felt very proud of everyone even though I was only meeting them for a fleeting few seconds to congratulate them but I knew how much hard work they had put in to their individual role to care for mothers and babies at East Lancs, and the reason for them receiving their personal accolade.
Before reading who the winners are just let me say – Congratulations to Anita Fleming HOM for leading such a brilliant team at East Lancs maternity services. You are an inspiration!

Lifetime achievement award went to recently retired Anne Edington
